Changing My Blog's Name

I've been debating about this for a while now. Part of me wants to change the name of my blog while the other part of me just wants to keep it. I want to keep it because it's kind of my own brand now, and people know me by Private School Prepster. I want to change it because I'm not always going to be going to be in private school, and not every single one of my posts have to do with something preppy.

The other problem is if I change my name, I can't think of anything that I like. Having it as just my name is kind of boring. I want to find something that'll fit me now and when I get older. I actually really like the name that I have now; I just don't know if it will fit me five years down the road when I'm no longer in private school.

Do you have any advice? Are you going through something similar?

  1. I think you should keep your name. If people know you by your blog's current name, then you pretty much have made a brand. And Congrats for that! Even if you are off in college in the near future, you probably should still keep the same name.

    Hope this helps! :)

  2. I totally understand, but I think you should keep your blog name for now. Once you get older if you still want to change the name then go for it :)

  3. I had this crisis the other day. My blog's called Rambling of a Beauty Bloggers and I was like - wait, what if I don't want to post about beauty (after posting a lot about fashion). I changed my name, logo and make a re-direct site. It was A LOT of work, within a couple of hours I was sad I'd re-branded everything and changed it back. Keep your name but blog how you want to :-)

  4. After much deliberation, I changed my blog's name and did a whole rebrand a few months ago. I'm afraid I did lose some confused followers and traffic from Pinterest, but my blog had changed and the old name just didn't reflect the style anymore, so I am still 100% happy with my decision... it was worth it in the end. If you do decide to change it, my best advice would be to really spend some time thinking about the new one (I made lists upon lists of options and had my friends vote!), and make sure you set it up so that all of your old content and links redirect. Good luck!!

  5. Dont do it! You built up your brand which is SO important. It's sort of who you are! Like college prepster? She's not in college anymore but she still uses it because of the brand she created for herself! Maybe just spice up your design or something while keeping the name ;)

  6. Ashley, I think your name suits your blog! You're right, people know you as "Private School Prepster" now. Changing your blog's name may confuse people. Think of this name as your "image" or "trademark" but still develop the ways you write and blog. Don't keep yourself from writing about something because it doesn't match the name!! "Prepster" describes you- but a LOT of other things describe you too- which would be impossible to put all in one name! :)

  8. Ashley!!

I have been having the same feeling because I don't post all things preppy 24/7 even though 'preppy' is in my blog's name as well!!

I would saw just keep it the way it is for now, and then once you find THE name that you ABSOLUTELY love, change it!! :)

  9. Ooh, I definitely see where your coming from! I debated about my blog name for a looong time before I started actually posting! My suggestion to you- it's 100% YOUR choice!

If you want to do a little bit of both, you can keep your blog name, but abbreviate it to P.S. Prepster, or something like that! That way people can still find you by your old name, but you also have a bit of a new one!

    Hope that helps!
