Lilly Pulitzer x Target Collaboration

I think just about every preppy blogger freaked out, including me, when Target and Lilly Pulitzer released that they would collaborate together this spring. Two of my favorite stores working together? FABULOUS! When I first heard this news, I was super excited. I knew I would be able to get cute and chic Lilly pieces for a really good price, which is awesome.

But then I started to think more about it and realized something. Lilly Pulitzer isn't sold in tons of places, but Target has stores everywhere. Once the spring line comes out in stores, so many people who have never worn Lilly before will start buying it and wearing it. Lilly will almost become mainstream. Although that's exciting, I have taken pride in the fact that very few people that I know in real life wear Lilly like I do. I have always been different, in a good way, because of it. I'm not saying that Lilly Pulitzer will become the next Abercrombie or Hollister, because it certainly won't; but I do have a feeling that people who have never even heard of Lilly or worn it before will suddenly start claiming they "love" it.

How can I take pride in my clothes and style knowing that everyone else will soon be wearing the same thing? I love the fact that I'm different from everyone else I know in person instead of being the same. But once this collaboration premiers, I'll no longer be able to have my own little wardrobe that no one else that I know really has.

What are your thoughts on this collaboration?

  1. 1. love the new layout of your blog.

    2. I agree. I too have mixed feelings. I'm so excited because I won't have to splurge as much to buy Lilly, working with a college budget. But I don't want Lilly to be mainstream. I'm hoping the collection is solely swim suits and coverups not actually clothing. Besides you and I both know that the quality can't nearly be but what it is now if it's being sold at Target. I love Target but c'mon you pay for what you get. I don't think Lilly will sell the same prints in their stores and online as they will in Target stores so you will be able to differentiate that way as well. With all this said, I still intend to purchase items from the new line, assuming they are amazing!

  4. I couldn't have said it better myself. It's definitely a little upsetting, but those of us who have been around since First Impressions and You Gotta Regatta and even earlier will always be distinguished and true Lilly lovers.

  6. I actually posted about this today, too!

I totally see where you're coming from. It's just kind of upsetting to hear all the people talk about how they don't want to be mixed in with masses who can't afford "real" Lilly Pulitzer. I completely agree that Lilly is such a unique thing that not everyone loves or wears, but I think it will still stay unique! Trust me, it takes a special kind of person with a keen eye for style to pull off those patterns ;)

(Also, I'm diggin' the new design!)

  7. I have to say I am a little surprised to see that Lilly has teamed up with Target to do a Lilly for Target line... it's like they are mainstreaming their product and making it less special. I kind of feel like it is a marketing mistake, but at the same time I am interested to see what it will look like.
